Here something I wrote to Tyler this morning via FB Messenger:

I have an intimate understanding of what Laetitia's situation is because I've lived it. I was trapped by my environment in an ugly situation of having to participate in ways that were harmful, hurtful, and hellish for my body. All because in Guatemala, the tribal laws are so outdated that it wasn't until 2006 that it was changed to not let rapists off the hook by marrying their victim... That's less than 20 years ago!

"In 2006, Guatemala repealed the law that allowed rapists to avoid prosecution by marrying their victims. This law was known as Article 200 of the Penal Code."

So, I'm intimately familiar with living in a toxic environment for women's freedom of just being, not having to expend so much energy to survive not only physically, but also emotionally and Spiritually. I was lucky to have the opportunity to have my uncle facilitate a move to the US at 19 to help "take care" of my 15 year old cousin. It was the toehold I needed to begin to free myself from the weight of the societal conditioning pressure to conform. I've had the honor, pleasure, and privilege to experience caring from so many different angles, it boggles my mind. I've worked in the Los Angeles area caring for: seniors, babies, children, pre-teens, women, undocumented immigrants, young people, tenants, volunteers, clients, students, teachers, friends, neighbors, husband's patients, family's friends, small business owners, cats, dogs, fish, lizards, snakes, chickens, horses, apartments, homes, plants, gardens, orchids, accounts receivables, accounts payables, teachings, research, marketing, ads, funnels, hopes, dreams, purpose...

If this isn't the correct thing for me to support, I don't know what is... It feels like I get the wondrous opportunity to be the help my younger self needed. I am an empowered woman, reaching out to my empowered friends to help empower another of my friends on their journey.
