Life Updates:
Lanny and I visited Bray today. We again traversed King’s Cross Station. In the first lift, we encountered a young family traveling with a young daughter on foot, and a very young boy in a pram. He was eye level with Lanny, and made eye contact with him. I said something like, “look at you two, riding in style!” The mom said “it’s the only way to go!” or something to the effect.
We took the Hammersmith & City line to Farringdon, exited the station to get on the Elizabeth Line. We exited at Maidenhead. Luckily, an 18 year old young man in a wheelchair had gotten the same train a few stations before so there was an attendant waiting to place a ramp in order to get off the train. It would have been impossible to do so otherwise. We were in the same elevator, and he asked Lanny how old he was. Lanny shared he was 83 years old, which is why we found out he was 18. He was going to the movies with two others.
The Oyster cards wouldn’t work at Maidenhead given it’s outside the Oyster area. The station attendant let us out, and said we could buy the tickets on our way home. I decided to walk the 1.7 miles to our destination since it was a beautiful day out after a rainy morning. Lanny wasn’t very excited about the decision. He mentioned the wheelchair ride felt rough because of every bump on the sidewalk. He also felt out of control since I’m the one doing the pushing he can only sit and watch.
We made it without much incident, except getting a little mud on my shoes, and having to push very hard in a muddy area which was slightly inclined. Lanny later mentioned he felt I might lose control and he’d wind up on his side on the road. It didn’t even occur to me! What a difference perspective makes!
