Impression III (Concert) 1911
Oil paint on canvas
On 2 January 1911 Kandinsky attended an Arold Schönberg concert in Munich. The painting Impression III (Concert) was created as a chromatic response to the atonal compositions Kandinsky experienced during the concert. The painting belongs to a series of six paintings called Impressions created in response to the direct impression of external nature. On 18 January Kandinsky wrote to Introduce himself to Schönberg, stating. “The particular destinies, the autonomous paths. the very lives of individual voices in your compositions are precisely what I have been looking for in pictorial form!”
Life Updates:
Lanny and I visited the Tate Modern Museum in London, England today. We traversed King’s Cross Station to get to Elevator F in order to get on the Circle line to get to Blackfriars station. The Oyster cards wouldn’t work… It turns out I bought the wrong package. A lovely woman helped us to exchange the 7 day bus/tram pass we had bought into pay per use in order to make it work.
It was my first time getting a wheelchair on the tube… And I did it wrong as I pushed Lanny in facing forward… One of the front tires got stuck in the gap! I didn’t “mind the gap” correctly! A woman passenger jumped out of her seat to help us get on the train before the doors closed. It was an exciting moment! And then, after listening to me explain to Lanny that the Circle line goes around in a circle, another female passenger proceeded to share that we were currently on the Hammersmith & City line. She proceeded to share where we should get off to wait for the next Circle train which runs on the same track. She also shared that I should back the wheelchair in & out of the subway. She shared her experience with her mother who also uses a wheelchair. She even said to us that “life is an adventure” to soothe Lanny as he wasn’t happy about the situation.
We got off, and got on the Circle line a few minutes later. We got off at Blackfriars and walked to the Tate Modern. It turns out it’s best to turn the wheelchair when getting on / off curbs when they’re not exactly level… When we got to the Museum I couldn’t find a low curb… I asked a young man who was walking by if he’d help me. He agreed, and as soon as he approached, two men in suits jumped out of a black car and helped lift Lanny’s wheelchair onto the curb. It was as if we had been in a movie! I was so grateful to all three men!
Lanny was somewhat disappointed in the exhibition as he had expected to see the geometric Kandinskys. He also didn’t want to see the art sitting down, so he pushed the empty wheelchair through the gallery for support.
When we finished, we exited on the other side of the museum and walked across the Thames on the Millennium Bridge, a pedestrian only bridge. I was looking for the underground on the other side of St. Paul’s Cathedral to get to lunch. However we couldn’t find a lift going down. We had a 1:00 pm reservation, so Lanny insisted we take a cab. A young man helped us identify which of the black cabs were for hire at the moment. We waved Alex down, and he drove us to lunch,
After lunch, we strolled through Portobello road on our way to Westbourne Park station… It turns out there was no lift there either! Lanny decided he would get off the wheelchair and walk down the flight of stairs. A woman who had just walked up the stairs asked to help. She took the wheelchair down, and waited until we finished going down. We were going one step at a time. Once we got to the bottom, I realized there were about 30 to 40 people behind us walking down the same stairs. They hadn’t jumped to the other side to get down. They had just gone down at our speed. It was an amazing feeling to not feel pressured to go down any faster. Not that we could have!
We made it back without further issue. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow!

Interesting tidbit:
Lanny and I had a glass of Gruner Veltliner, a white wine, with lunch. My digestive system has become very sensitive to alcohol. I had the wine at about 2:00 pm, and here I am 12 hours later still feeling the negative effects on my system as it tries to eliminate the poison I chose to imbibe. Here’s my reminder to just drink sparkling water instead, it’s the loving thing to do for my body.
