Intuiting
This is half a day late.
My intuition spoke to me yesterday afternoon, it said: “Go write your daily”. I heard it clearly. My mind responded, “You know we don’t write until evening, we can wait. It’s too early to write, don’t you think?”
My intuition didn’t respond because it only ever speaks once.
If there’s a repetitive loop, a back & forth, or a loud insistence on getting something done, I now know that’s not my intuition… it’s my mind.
If I had to come up with a metaphor, in a car the gas pedal would represent the mind. And if you’re only using the gas pedal you’ll be in trouble fast.
If you haven’t yet shifted gears, if you depress the gas pedal you’ll be revving the engine, using up fuel, and moving nowhere.
Once you’re in gear, if you depress the gas but don’t turn the steering wheel, you’ll be in trouble again. You have to turn the wheel to direct the car once it’s moving.
Once you’re moving in the direction you want, if you continuously depress the gas pedal, without lifting your foot off, and maybe even applying pressure to the brake you’ll start moving too fast which will reduce the reaction time you have to modify your direction.
And when you’ve gotten to where you were going, you’ll have to engage in reverse in order to park. To only move forward doesn’t work. Sometimes you have to stop, look around for obstacles, and back up.
Do you hear your intuition when it chooses to speak to you?
