Barking
I was enjoying the sun on my face on this windy day, sitting in the backyard, listening to a Ra Uru Hu recording on my headphones.
Sparky had been running around the backyard, coming by me to get pets, and then suddenly he started barking behind me.
Sparky is known to bark at folks walking up the driveway, to ducks landing on our pool, and to unknown things I can’t see.
I waited.
He continued.
Finally, I turned around.
Sparky was barking at a piece of bark that had fallen from one of the palms in the backyard. The wind was making the bark quiver. Sparky was circling the bark, barking at it. I finally got up and turned the bark upside down, so it stopped moving so much. Sparky slowly approached the bark, snorted at it, then sniffed it. He finally stopped barking.
It made me think of how often I’ve recognized my mind barking at unknown, uncertain, or unclear things quivering in the winds of change.
Now I’m aware I don’t have to waste my energy listening to my mind’s own barking.
Are you aware of what your mind’s barking sounds like?
