Life Updates:
Lanny wanted to revisit J. Sheekey’s for an oyster lunch. He has previously visited with Alice (his late wife of 37 years), myself, and myself & my son on separate trips. The closest Underground station to the restaurant is Leicester Square (sounds like Lester). We again got to King’s Cross Station, found Lift J to the Piccadilly line. This is the line that actually goes straight to Heathrow! When we arrived to Lift J, a message said it was out of order. I pushed a button on a device on the wall, and a helpful person on the other side told me he’d send a technician to reset the elevator. Lanny was concerned we’d wait a long time, specially since we had a 1:00 pm reservation. He hates being late to any timed activity. I was surprised at how quickly the elevator started moving! The wait was less than 3 minutes!
We proceeded to take the Piccadilly line to Leicester Square. Once we were on the train, I noticed at one of the other stations that the platform wasn’t level with the train. I pointed it out to Leland, and a helpful Scotsman said he was also getting off at Leicester Square, and he’d be happy to help us. And we needed it! The platform wasn’t level with the train. He mentioned he’d stay with us until we got out to the street. I didn’t see the lift sign, and mentioned to the Scotsman that maybe the lift was on the other end of the station. I thanked him, said we could handle it, and asked him to continue on his journey.
It turns out there was no lift at that station at all! So, I pressed the button and spoke to a helpful Undergrounder. He confirmed there was no lift, and suggested we get back on the train to the next station, then get on the bus back. I said I’d need help getting back on the train as it wasn’t level, and getting up would be harder than getting down. He asked us to wait for him. He arrived shortly before the next train arrived. He was maneuvering the wheelchair, and he realized he couldn’t get Lanny on the train in time. He said we’d get on the next one. Two of his fellow Undergrounders came to support.
As we waited, I shared how helpful people have been, including the one time a woman carried the wheelchair down while Lanny took the stairs down. Lanny chimed in and said he could get out of the chair and walk up the stairs again. So we agreed to do so. OMG! What an amazing show! Three men helping us! Lanny had to walk up one set of stairs, then he got on the wheelchair which we took onto the second longest escalator in the London Underground system. (I took a few seconds of video of the spectacle, which the men said they’re not supposed to do, but Nathan went out of his way to help us!) Then Lanny got off the chair one more time to walk up the steps to the street. Nathan walked us around the corner to the restaurant!
We’ve been to London before. And we’ve never seen so much Spirit in the Londoners we’ve encountered as we have on this particular trip. So many people have gone out of their ways to help us get to where we’re going. It’s our last night here, and I’m overcome with gratitude for the kindness, caring, and support we’ve been show while visiting. Thank you!!

Interesting tidbit:
When looking for how long the escalator is at Leicester Square station, I found this website which details the accessibility features.
Wonderful. I really like the painting “Rider”
